Our Engineering Team is based at our headquarters. Fire Engineering is the application of scientific and engineering principles, rules (Codes) and expert judgment, based on an understanding of the phenomena and effects of fire and of the reaction and behaviour of people to it, to protect people, property and the environment from its effects.
Our fire engineering team deals with complex fire safety matters in proposed new buildings to ensure that, when they’re occupied, the buildings are safe for people in them. This higher level of technical scrutiny supports our officers who deal with building applications, for which we have to consult with the Building Control Body.
We support the principles of Better Regulation, Better Business for All and economic growth, both locally and nationally. With others, we’re engaged in the Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) in our region, including the Greater Birmingham and Solihull pathfinder LEP under which we are signatories to the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership Charter.
Key to our support of Better Regulation is our involvement with Primary Authority. Our Primary Authority partners include Enterprise Inns, E.ON, Marie Curie, Marks and Spencer, Nationwide Building Society and Wilko. In accordance with the terms of Primary Authority, we recover our costs from the work we do with our partners. The costs we recover are reinvested in community safety initiatives.
