West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) has again recorded its lowest gender pay gap since records started in 2017.
The gap is the difference between average earnings for men and women. As of 31 March 2024, it stood at 5.5 per cent – down from 6.1 per cent a year ago.
Although the publication of pay gap figures based on ethnicity is not a statutory requirement, WMFS has been analysing this data for a number of years. This year, again, there has been a positive shift in the difference between the average hourly rate of pay for white staff and colleagues who are Black, Asian or from a minority background. The gap has narrowed, from 4.7 per cent a year ago to 3.5 per cent.
In December 2023, for the second year in a row, WMFS was crowned the UK’s most inclusive employer, in recognition of its commitment to diversity, inclusion and equality.
