It is well-deserved recognition for everyone across West Midlands Fire Service who wants our service to mirror the communities we serve

West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) is proud and honoured to have been named the UK’s Most Inclusive Employer.

The accolade was announced last night (Thurs 1 Dec) at an awards ceremony in Manchester.

Now in its seventh year, The Inclusive Top 50 UK Employers List shines a light on best practice across all strands of diversity including age, disability, gender, LGBT+, race, faith and religion.

WMFS jumped to the No 1 spot after being placed ninth in the 2021 index.

A panel of judges collates the list, based on ‘brave and innovative’ organisations’ performance in, and commitment to, diversity, equity and inclusion.

WMFS’s Chief Fire Officer, Phil Loach, said: “We’re proud and humbled to have been recognised in this way. It is well-deserved recognition for everyone across West Midlands Fire Service who wants our service to mirror the communities we serve.

“Being a diverse service means we can develop and grow a talented workforce, focused on delivering better outcomes for our communities.

“As we emerge from the immense challenges of continuing to serve our communities throughout the pandemic, inclusivity has remained a priority. We want everyone who works for WMFS to truly feel welcome, and for members of our communities to see themselves when they look at us.

“I’m immensely proud of the work that has gone into this achievement, and grateful to the teams and staff stakeholder groups who remain so invested in making it happen.

“However, being named the UK’s Most Inclusive Employer is far from ‘job done’. It’s fantastic recognition of our work so far, but also an incentive to ensure WMFS remains a great place to work for the benefit of our communities.”
