A total of four crews are dealing with a fire at a commercial garage on Rolfe Street, Smethwick.

We were called at 13:45 to the incident, which involves a severe fire in a workshop and tyre fitter's premises. Sixteen firefighters are currently dealing the fire.

Rolfe Street has been closed in both directions to allow safe working for our firefighters.

This incident involved a fire in a tyre and car repair unit.

Six breathing apparatus, 1 hose reel jet and two main jets are in use across the site.

Good progress is being made, although the service bay was destroyed and there is heavy smoke logging to the affected unit.

West Midlands Police are assisting our crews with maintaining a cordon around the site.

We can confirm Rolfe Street has re-opened to traffic and allows businesses in the area to continue trading.

Crews worked into the evening to extinguish the fire.

A number of hazards were dealt with, including propane cylinders and drug paraphernalia. We worked with West Midlands Police colleagues throughout the incident.

Crews spent time digging out and turning over fire debris whilst monitoring for any hotspots or signs of fire spread. A revisit took place 9am this morning.
