Over 60 firefighters were called to a significant fire in a single-storey industrial unit, on Birmingham Road, Dudley, this morning (13 November) at 2.30am. At the height of the incident, 10 fire engines, a 4x4 response vehicle and a hydraulic platform were in attendance. The crews from Dudley, Tipton, Oldbury, Haden Cross, Brierley Hill and Bilston worked with partner agencies on the scene to tackle the blaze. A number of residents have been temporarily relocated to a local fast food restaurant, as a precaution, whilst our crews bring the fire under control. Dudleys' Fisher Road bus station, operated by National Express, is currently closed along with road closures still in place on St Joseph Street and Porters Fld. We encourage residents to avoid the area and check travel routes prior to commencing their journey.
Our crews continue to make good progress on scene bringing the fire under control and our operations are now being scaled down. We have worked closely with a number of other agencies including ambulance, police and environment agency. The Bus Terminus on Fisher Street is likely to be closed for a while, therefore we are encouraging the public to check their routes before they travel. St Joseph Street and Porters Fld also remain closed at this time.
Our operations continue to scale down as we work closely with the Bus station operators, National Express, and the industrial premises owner. Please continue to avoid the area. The following roads are currently closed- Fisher Street; Porters Fld; St Joseph Street; Birmingham Street and Bourne Street. Fisher Road Bus Station also remains closed at this time, therefore we encourage you to review your route prior to commencing your journey.
Fisher Road Bus Station has partly re-opened with access via Castle Street. 4 fire engines and over 20 crew remain on scene. The investigation into the cause continues.
Most road closures have now been lifted. We advise you to monitor National Express social media and their website for up to date travel advice. Our crews remain on scene.
Following a significant fire this morning (13 November) our crews continue to monitor the scene of this incident, however most activity has now ceased.
Our investigators believe an outdoor fire, involving refuse, fencing and conifer trees, spread to the premises, which were used to store textiles and bedding.
