At 11.51am on Monday 23 May we responded to Alvis Retail Park in Coundon, Coventry where a man was trapped beneath a car.

Two fire engines crewed by 10 firefighters from Coventry fire station attended, with the first crew arriving within three minutes of being mobilised.

They arrived to find a man, believed to be in his early eighties, injured and trapped beneath a car following a collision.

Working with colleagues from the ambulance service, we devised a plan to lift the vehicle and release the man, using equipment including specialist air bags. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Firefighters also gave first aid to the female driver of the car, believed to be in her early 60s, who was suffering from shock.
