At 12.35am in the early hours of Wednesday 6 April we responded to a severe fire in the roof of a mid-terraced house in Shelley Croft, Shard End, Birmingham.

Four fire engines, a brigade response vehicle and a hydraulic aerial platform attended. These were crewed by 25 firefighters from Sheldon, Ward End, Highgate, Hay Mills and Erdington fire stations.

The first crew arrived within four minutes of being mobilised.

The fire started in the roof space of a house being used to grow cannabis. It spread to two adjoining properties.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and main jets to extinguish the fire. The aerial platform was used to strip roof tiles and locate any remaining hotspots.
