We were called to Smurfit Kappa in Nechells today, the site of the former large blaze only a few weeks ago, after hot temperatures and wind conditions ignited waste cardboard stored at the site.

Crews from Ward End and Aston attended the site just after 13:00 on 19 July after on-site staff contacted the fire service.

The incident involved two large piles of cardboard on fire. Firefighters, who used 4 main jets, worked to dampen the blaze and prevent further breakouts.

The affected areas have been locked down and crews are assisting on-site staff by further damping down other waste piles to prevent any other breakouts of fire.

Crews expect to be at the site for at least the rest of the afternoon.
