Around 30 firefighters tackling highrise building fire in Brownhills, Walsall

Shortly after 1.30pm on Thursday (29 August), we responded to Lindon Drive in the Brownhills area of Walsall. Fire engines from Aldridge, Bloxwich, Walsall, Willenhall, Bilston, Sutton Coldfield and Perry Barr responded, together with a Staffordshire crew from Lichfield. This is a fire on the eighth floor of a 17-storey building. Two main jets are in use as we work to extinguish the fire. Cordons have been put in place.
Updates for this incident
This fire was confirmed to have been extinguished by 3.25pm. It is understood to have affected one flat, with no one reported hurt. We will shortly be scaling down our resources at the scene to four fire crews. Our investigators will be working to establish how it started.
Crews have made good progress at this incident. Only one property was affected by fire, although searches to flats above and below have taken place to check for fire spread. No persons have been reported injured, and three crews remain at the scene. Colleagues from West Midlands Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended, but have since been stood down. A cause has not yet been confirmed.
