At approximately 15:30 on Sunday 20th August, we responded to an incident at Solihull Heights, New Coventry Road.

Firefighters from Sheldon, Solihull, Ward End and Billesely fire stations attended.

This incident involved an unknown gas leak in a flat within the residential building. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered and made initial investigations before evacuating residents.

We are working closely with Police and Ambulance colleagues. Several residents have received precautionary checks and been discharged on scene.

Crews and specialist hazardous materials advisors will continue to monitor the incident, work to determine a cause, and formulate a plan for residents of the building.

An entire evacuation of the ground, first and second floors took place at this address while investigations were conducted.

Firefighters and specialist personnel conducted tests and readings over a three-hour timeframe, during which time, firefighters ventilated the building.

Residents were allowed back into the building when our tests confirmed there were no harmful chemicals or gases present.

Eleven adults and a child were assessed as a precaution and later discharged by paramedics at the scene.
