Forty firefighters tackle fire in Wednesbury

Hallens Drive, Wednesbury, UK

At 2.40pm on Wednesday 17 August we were alerted to a fire in disused gym premises on Hallens Drive, Wednesbury.

Seven fire engines, an aerial platform and some 40 personnel were mobilised, together with one of our drone teams.

They were met with a severe fire in a two-storey building measuring around 25 by 25 metres.

West Midlands Police were requested to assist with traffic management.

People who live or work nearby, or who are affected by the smoke, are asked to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution.

Electricity to the building has been isolated so our crews can work safely inside. This will, unfortunately, also mean a temporary loss of power for around 40 local properties. Thank you for your patience and understanding if you are affected.

The fire is confirmed out and crews have searched the building. Our fire investigation team will soon begin work to establish a cause.
