Just before 1.10pm on Bank Holiday Monday (29 August), we were alerted to smoke coming from a disused hotel building on Birmingham Road, Allesley.

Four fire engines initially responded, from Coventry, Canley and Foleshill fire stations, with the first arriving five minutes after being mobilised.

Crews from Sheldon, Hay Mills and Ward End fire stations also attended, bringing the total number of firefighters to 33.

This was a fire on the ground floor of the three-storey building, which is believed to have been started deliberately.

Our crews had extinguished it by 2.15pm. They had conducted a full search and confirmed there was no-one inside by 2.40pm.

The road was closed for safety during our firefighting operations.

We left the scene at 3.10pm.
