Greyhound & Punch Bowl, High Street, Bilston, UK

Shortly after 3.40am on Saturday 30 September, we responded to The Greyhound and Punch Bowl Pub on High Street, Bilston.

Three fire engines and a 4×4 brigade response vehicle attended, crewed by 18 firefighters. The first arrived at the scene within two minutes of being mobilised.

This was a fire affecting the ground floor of the building. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the fire, which was confirmed to be out at 5.20am.

All four floors of the pub were very heavily smoke logged.

After the fire was extinguished, High Street was closed in one direction due to the threat of the building collapsing. Structural engineers confirmed the building was safe to re-enter, enabling one of our fire investigation officers to begin work.
Fire crews revisited the property on Saturday and Sunday, to ensure there were no remaining hotspots.

We believe this fire was started deliberately. Police enquiries continue.
