Crews from Highgate and Ladywood Fire Station have attended reports of a double-decker bus on fire on Moor Street, Birmingham City Centre.

The incident involves a severe fire on the upper deck of the bus.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using one hose reel jet are tackling the blaze.

The driver of the bus is believed to be suffering smoke inhalation but no other injuries or casualties are reported.

Please avoid the area as traffic congestion is likely.

Crews extinguished the fire and checked the vehicle using a thermal image camera.

Investigations suggest the incident was caused by careless disposal of smoking materials.

Representatives from National Express are in attendance and arranging for recovery of the bus.

Two people, including the driver, were treated for slight smoke inhalation and handed over to West Midlands Ambulance paramedics who attended the scene. We do not believe they were conveyed to hospital.

No other passengers were injured at this incident.

Crews will be leaving the scene shortly.
