RE: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 REQUEST

I am writing to confirm that the West Midlands Fire Service has now completed its search for the information you requested further to your freedom of information request.

Please find below a summary of our findings

For the period 2013 to the present time with reference to the Fireman’s and Firefighters pension schemes.

During the period requested there have been occasions when full pension payments have continued to be paid following the death of a pensioner due to the pension department not being informed of the death.

How many cases of the above mentioned have occurred in this time period?

There were 2 cases during this time period

How many monthly payments have been made for each occurrence?

The monthly payments in the above cases were 12 and 15.

Have the total overpayments being recovered for each case that the Pension department has become aware of?

In one of the cases the overpayments have been recovered in the other we are in the process of recovering the amount.

What process does WMFS employ to verify that the records held of pensioner members is current?

Pensioners are responsible for ensuring that WMFS has up to date records and that the pensions department are informed of any changes to their personal contacts

How many verified records do WMFS hold in repeat of pensioner members?

There are currently approximately 2,600 pension members
