RE: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 REQUEST
West Midlands Fire Service has now completed its search for the information requested on 22nd January 2022
Please find below a summary of our findings.
Why do stations with 2 PRL’s such as Coventry Or Highgate deploy their Second pump instead of the 1st to jobs even if they are both in station?
WMFS now dynamically mobilise which means we send the most appropriate appliance based on the information we have from the caller regarding the nature of the incident and several other factors such as crewing numbers and equipment available.
Whilst we look to staff both appliances with 5 riders, there will be times where the second PRL will drop down to 4 and therefore, the number of crew will be a consideration.
There is also different equipment on the first appliance to that which is on the second, so the nature of the incident will then be a factor in deciding which is the best appliance to mobilise for the type of incident that is being reported.
