Away from work, Pete enjoys listening to, watching and playing music in a band, as well as relaxing by riding his motorbike.

Work history

Pete started his career as a civil engineer in the South East, becoming Quality Assurance Manager for John Laing Construction.

In 1992, he headed for Namibia to set up and deliver water and sanitation projects for the EU and UNICEF. He later moved to Zimbabwe where, with Voluntary Service Overseas, he secured and managed volunteer placements.

He returned to the UK in 2000 and worked in Handsworth, Birmingham on an EU-funded economic development project. He became Neighbourhood Manager on the 3 Estates New Deal for Communities project in Kings Norton.

In 2008, he joined West Midlands Fire Service to manage Safeside, our experiential learning centre and interactive safety village for children, young people and adults.
