West Midlands Fire Service is proud to have been ranked as sixth in The Inclusive Top 50 UK Employers List, announced today (2 Dec).
The index lists organisations that promote inclusion and embrace diversity across a number of protected characteristics at all levels of employment.
Now in its fifth year, the list was announced this morning via an online event. It highlights best practice and innovation to drive inclusion for all.
Chief Fire Officer, Phil Loach, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have been one of the Inclusive Top 50 UK Employers for five years running, and to have risen 28 places since 2019 making us this year’s highest climbing organisation. I would like to congratulate all those listed, including colleagues at West Midlands Police, West Midlands Combined Authority and Midland Heart.
“We’re committed to providing excellent services to our diverse communities, and to developing a workforce that truly reflects those communities.
“This year has been like no other, but our staff have stepped up like they always do. We’ve managed to keep our recruitment and training processes running, in COVID-secure ways, welcoming several new female firefighters and others from BAME backgrounds.
“Our wider workforce has remained ready, willing and able to continue delivering our critical services to our most vulnerable residents and businesses, with many volunteering to help deliver essential food and medical parcels to those in need. They’ve been an inspiration.”
Paul Sesay, founder and CEO of the Inclusive Top 50 UK Employers List, said: “Companies featured on this year’s list have felt the importance of ensuring individual voices are heard and are standing up as responsible employers against discrimination and inequality.
“Those who ranked are on a continuous journey but have made it their mission to advocate for inclusive workplaces where everyone feels empowered to be the very best they can be.”
Organisations on the list are judged on wide-ranging criteria, including recruitment procedures, training and a host of diversity–related initiatives. Demonstrating the promotion of all strands of diversity including age, disability, gender, LGBT, race, faith and religion, the list also focuses on representation at management, senior, executive and board level.
