Today, 8 March, we’re proud to join hands globally to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD) - a day dedicated to honouring women's achievements and advocating greater equality.

This year's theme, 'Inspire Inclusion,' calls on us all to champion diversity, empowerment, and inclusivity - principles that West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) strives to achieve through Our Values. Not just today, but every day.

At WMFS, we recognise the strength that comes from diverse perspectives and experiences, especially in a profession where teamwork and understanding are pivotal. Our dedication to these values is reflected in our policies, training, and community engagement efforts. We work hard to ensure a welcoming and supportive environment for all.

To commemorate IWD, we were thrilled to be joined by members of our communities for a celebratory breakfast event at our headquarters. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect, share stories, and learn about roles and careers within our service.

This year, we've asked some our female colleagues to share their journeys, achievements and thoughts on what IWD means to them. Their stories, below, are testament to the drive, dedication, and resilience that women bring to fire and rescue services and to communities everywhere.

Please read their accounts of the diverse journeys that have led them here, and the impact they've made along the way.

Together, let’s #InspireInclusion.
