RE: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 REQUEST

West Midlands Fire Service has now completed its search for the information requested on 24th August 2020

Please find below a summary of our findings.

Request.

I was wondering if your department possesses detailed incident and mobilisation data from 2009/2010 to present such as that of the London Fire and Rescue Services Department (LFB sample datasets can be provided reference) that I may acquire for my research project.

For example, incident data including:
• Incident number
• Date of call
• Hour of call
• Incident group
• Special service type
• Property type
• Incident station ground
• Deployed from station

And mobilisation data including:
• Incident number
• Date and time mobilised
• Date and time mobile
• Date and time arrived
• Attendance time seconds
• Date and time left
• Deployed from station (name)

Please note : We don’t give out the actual incident numbers but I’ve matched them in the two datasets, so incident number 1 in the incident data will match the mobilisation data for incident number 1.I’ve included all incidents within WMFS from April 2009 up to the end of the last financial year.

Please see attached.

Incidents:

‘Deployed from station’: this is already in the mobilisation data.

Mobilisations:

There is a small number of incidents without mobilisation data, this is either because they were in WMFS area but were attended by an appliance from another FRS only or because the data is missing from the database.

‘Deployed from station’: I can only provide the home station for the callsign, not whether this is where they actually were when they were mobilised, they could have been at another station or anywhere in the west midlands (e.g. training, doing Prevention work, etc), though it is likely they were at their home station. Where it says ‘n/a’ it means they were Officers.

A small number do not have a ‘home station’, this is because the callsign that is recorded against this incident is a generic one that is sometimes used for incidents happening on station, such as ring removals.

I have not included attendance time simply because what we call attendance time may be different from what the you may refer to (we use time assigned to time in attendance, but they could mean time of call to time in attendance). However It is easily calculated in an excel spreadsheet.
