A request for information about water usage – 17081
RE: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 REQUEST
I am writing to confirm that the West Midlands Fire Service has now completed its search for the information you requested on 20th July 2017
Please find below a summary of our findings.
I am doing some research into water usage by Fire Brigades and want to know how you pay for water and how you are metered.
We are billed approximately every 6 months and we pay via BACS.
Does each fire station have it’s own meter and own bill, do you have a separate bill for your HQ and training school.
Each station has its own meter as does the Academy Annexe (CDC) and HQ which includes Safeside. We do not have a training school anymore, we have sold it. A separate bill is provided for each site.
Do you have to pay to fill up a pump after it has attended an incident.
Could you tell me your average water bill for the last 3 years
West Midlands Fire Service does not pay for water that we use for emergencies which is an agreement we have with our water provider.
Section 147 of the Water Industry Act 1991, which expressly forbids charging by a water undertaker in respect of: water taken for the purpose of extinguishing fires or for any other emergency purposes; water taken for testing apparatus used for extinguishing fires; or for fire-fighting training. This subsection re-enacts section 15(1) of the 1947 Act.”
