I am writing to confirm that the West Midlands Fire Service has now completed its search for the information you requested on 7th July

Please find below a summary of our findings.

Request

The number of reported domestic fires caused in the kitchen in 2014 and 2015, within the West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service. If possible, I would also like to know how many of these reported fires were caused as a direct result of an oven/cooking appliance.

Reply

The number of domestic fires caused in the kitchen in 2014 and 2015, attended by West Midlands Fire Service is as follows.

In 2014 there were 1085 fires started in the kitchen of a dwelling, 906 were caused by cooking appliances (which include ovens).

In 2015 there were 1049 fires started in the kitchen of a dwelling, 834 were caused by cooking appliances.
