I am writing to confirm that the West Midlands Fire Service has now completed its search for the information you requested on 6th January 2017
Please find below a summary of our findings.
I would like to request the number of hoax 999 calls that have been recorded between 2016-2017 (a), how many of those calls involved call outs (b) and the cost of these call outs (c).
Malicious false alarms in 2016/17: Calls received: 747
The cost of these call outs.

West Midlands Fire Service does not record the cost per incident for malicious calls, so it is therefore exempt under Section 1 of the Freedom of Information 2000 Act.
However it is possible to calculate a notional cost for these incidents by applying the charging mechanism that is used to calculate special service call charges.
Please see attached for the cost of a Pump Rescue Ladder for a special service calls for 2010-14.
If you wish to calculate a notional incident cost then this would per approximately one pump rescue ladder for one hour per call out.
