A request for information about fires recorded in which cladding contributed to a building fire -17065
RE: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 REQUEST
I am writing to confirm that the West Midlands Fire Service has now completed its search for the information you requested on 26th June 2017.
Please find below a summary of our findings.
In the wake of the fire at Grenfell Tower, data about the number of fires recorded in which cladding contributed to a building fire. In particular, where this cladding was made of Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding or plastic-based insulation products PIR or PUR were a factor in the spread of the fire.
1) Please state the number of cases where the cladding of a building has played a contributory role to a building fire.
Please state what type of building was involved in the fire, whether it was commercial or residential and what the height of the building (as far as your recording system records) was. Please provide information for each of the following financial years: 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17
Please see attached.
The tab labelled table is a summary and shows the number of fires by financial year. The tab labelled incidents show a breakdown of the fires with the property type detailed in each case
The information recorded by us is in response to the question “Did anything about the building construction affect the fire?” All incidents have been included where the answer to that question was “Yes – cladding”.
2) Please check if in any incident reports specifically refer to the following materials as contributing to the fire. a) Aluminium Composite Material (ACM), b) Plastic-based insulation products PIR or PUR. Please state what type of building was involved in the fire, whether it was commercial or residential and what the height of the building (as far as your recording system records) was in each case. Please provide information for each of the following financial years: 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17
This information is exempt under section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 as we do not hold this information. We do not record details on the type of cladding, we only record that cladding was involved in the incident
