RE: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 REQUEST

West Midlands Fire Service has now completed its search for the information requested on 4th July 2019

Please find below a summary of our findings.

Request

  1. How enhancement of protected 1992 scheme pension was calculated on introduction of FPS 2015.  I understand that this was intended proportionally to reflect the double accrual on the 1992 scheme service already built up when the 1992 scheme was replaced but how was the calculation actually done?
  2. Assuming a firefighter took retirement on 31 March 2021, the day before their 50th birthday, having entered the service on 1 April 1993 they would have total calendar service of 28 years of which 22 years up to closure of the 1992 scheme on 31 March 2015.  As I understand it 1992 scheme pensionable service before enhancement would be (20/60) + (2 x 2/60) = 24/60 – what please would it be after enhancement?
  3. Assuming the firefighter as above instead took retirement on 31 March 2026 or 31 March 2031, the days before their 55th and 60th birthdays respectively, would the 1992 pensionable service figure change, or is the enhancement of protected 1992 scheme pension the same for retirement at any point after the 1992 scheme closed?
