A request for information about fire statistics for April 2014 to April 2015

Ref: FOI/18060

I am writing to confirm that the West Midlands Fire Service has now completed its search for the information you requested on 23rd April 2018.

Please find below a summary of our findings.

I wrote you last year requesting the fire statistics for April 2014 to April 2015 (see email below) which you helpfully supplied.  I am still working on this project and hoped you would be able to give me the same statistics for the year’s April 2016 – April 2017 and April 2017 – April 2018?.

Specifically I would like the same statistics as previously but this time just for the deliberate fires for both years.

Please see attached.

I also would like to have the eastings and northings for each fire incident for these two years if that is possible.

By supply the northing and easting will be providing the exact location of the incident and by that would to be in contravention of the Data Protection Act 1998 and the incoming General Data Protection Regulation (GPDR). Therefore has decided not to release the information because we have to respect the privacy of individuals and ensure that we do not contravene the Data Protection Act 1998 and the incoming GPDR.

I wanted to ask a follow up question about the data.  I have the location as ‘ward’ and I wondered what the wards are and how they are divided up by the Fire Service?

A ward is a local authority area, typically used for electoral purposes. Wards are usually named after neighbourhoodsthoroughfaresparisheslandmarks, geographical features and in some cases historical figures connected to the area.

West Midlands Fire Service strategically located fire stations, divided into six command areas (Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton).
