I am writing to confirm that the West Midlands Fire Service has now completed its search for the information you requested on 22nd September 2017.

The following significant operational lessons were learned.

Cross Contamination – Procedures for decontamination of equipment has been developed and issued.

Inoculations – Details of recommended vaccinations updated to cover falls response.

NEWS – WMFS have adopted the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) system for assessing clients at falls response incidents.

Clinical Waste – A contract for disposal of clinical waste has been let to provide disposal points on a number of Fire Stations.

Stress, Anxiety and Mental Fitness – Details of sources of support reissued and work to develop further support forms part of on-going development of the service.

Turnout method for falls response – Trial of turning out to falls response calls using mobile phones to minimise stress is ongoing. Evaluation is due to be completed by the end of December and recommendations will follow.
