Ref: FOI/16151

RE: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 REQUEST

I am writing to confirm that the West Midlands Fire Service has now completed its search for the information you requested on 24th December 2016.

Please find below a summary of our findings.

Request

Can you please provide me with the information for the following calendar years, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 to date?

How many animals were your firefighters called out to rescue?
Within the cost limit, could you provide some detail of the incidents you were called out to?  For example the type of animal and location.

Reply

Please see attached. FOI16151-Animal Rescues.

Request

If it is possible within the cost limit, can you please provide a figure for how much these animal rescues have cost the service?

Reply

Please see attached. FOI16151-Animal Rescues.

West Midlands Fire Service does not record the cost amount for animals rescue call outs, so it is therefore exempt under Section 1 of the Freedom of Information 2000 Act. However it is possible to calculate a notional cost for call out by applying the charging mechanism that is used to calculate special service call charges.

Please see attached for the cost of a Pump Rescue Ladder for a special service calls for 2010-16.

If you wish to calculate a notional incident cost then this would per approximately one pump rescue ladder for one hour per call out.

If you have any queries about this email, please contact me.  Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications. If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision please write to The Public Relations Department, West Midlands Fire Service, 99 Vauxhall Road, Birmingham, B7 4HW
