RE: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 REQUEST
West Midlands Fire Service has now completed its search for the information requested on 5th August 2019
Please find below a summary of our findings.
I would like figures by financial year for the number of firefighters and civilian employees absent due to mental health related illness.
London Fire Brigade responded to a similar request in January 2018 (see disclosure log FOIA3550.1, at https://www.london-fire.gov.uk/media/3217/foia35501.pdf). I would be grateful, if at all possibly, if you could follow the same format for your response to this information request.
[Further information: in FOIA response 3550.1, London Fire Brigade gave a table, by financial year (for 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2017/18) with details of number of cases of absence due to mental health (“stress, anxiety and depression related illness”), a column with an unexplained acroynm (“LWD”), which I assume is total number of days lost, and contextual columns detailing maximum days available, and average number of staff.]
To allow me to build a national picture of mental health absence within fire services, I would really appreciate you following a similar format with your information response. Please can you provide the following:
- Data on number of cases of mental health related absence by financial year for (in order of priority) 2018/19, 2017/18, 2016/17, 2015/16, 2014/15, 2013/14, total number of days of absence by financial year, total days of available work and total average staff by financial year (to contextualise the figures), ideally as per the methodology of London Fire Brigade’s previous response.
- If you are unable to process this information request in full without exceeding time limits (Section 12), please provide data only for 2017/18 and 2018/19.
Please see attached.
