I am writing to confirm that the West Midlands Fire Service has now completed its search for the information you requested on 7th October. Please find below a summary of our findings.


What type and number of appliances would attend the site as part of a first response to an incident?


This would depend on dynamic mobilisation. Depending on the information fire control would receive at the time of call this could either be Brigade Response Vehicle (BRV) or a Pump Rescue Ladder (PRL) or a mixture of both. If the call was to a confirmed fire then 2 fire appliances would be mobilised initially this could be a PRL and a BRV comprising a minimum of 8 personnel.   This could be reduced or increased as appropriate but the normal level of response is 2.


What is the capacity of these appliances?


BRV’s carry 280 litres of water PRL’s carry 1800 litres


Based on your experience of incidents at similar facilities, for how long would they anticipate having to apply firefighting and/or cooling water and/or foam?


This would very much depend on the size and complexity of the incident.


Are you aware of any restrictions on the supply of firefighting water to the site?


All Hydrants are inspected on a risk based approach and open water sites are highlighted and inspected.


If the incident were to escalate, what is the maximum number of appliances that could be called to the site?


This would very much depend on decisions made on the incident ground as to recourses required to deal with an incident.
