Event Details

We are delighted to announce our next ‘The Hub’ digital event will take place on the morning of 19th July on Racial Equality.

As an area identified for improvement in the most recent State of Fire report, equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) has never been as important as it is right now to the future of our sector and our society.

During the two hour session we will hear from the following speakers:

  • Opening addresses from Chief Fire Officer Phil Loach and Deputy Chief Fire Officer Wayne Brown covering the work WMFS have done around racial equality including focuses on BLM and the Black Country Flag along with personal perspectives and journeys of racial equality in the sector
  • Kemi Labinjo, Barrister and EDI specialist who will bring an external point of view and share her learning on racial equality, focusing on some of the issues we don’t perhaps always think about and offering some solutions we can put into practice.
  • A member of our Inspire group will talk about the importance of staff networks, the purpose of Inspire as a network and how Inspire has helped them as an employee from a personal perspective
  • There will be lots of time for interaction and discussion.

We’ve listened to feedback and understand that it’s difficult to engage for long periods of time virtually and so our ’Knowledge Bites’ events will be no longer than two hours ensuring they are flexible enough to fit around your diaries at the same time as offering important professional development. Use this time to focus on you, your development and how you can make an impact in this area. Make yourself a coffee, turn off the phone, and really focus on some development time for you!

This event is aimed at EVERYONE and we would really welcome your attendance. We all have a part to play in ensuring inclusion in the workplace no matter what our role and by attending this event you will understand at a greater depth how you can contribute.

There is no charge to attend this event. Please register for your place here
