Long Service Awards

West Midlands Fire Service has honoured staff who have completed 20 years of exemplary service.

Twenty Six Long Service Good Conduct medals and awards were presented to a group of uniformed and non-uniformed staff during a ceremony at West Midlands Fire Service Headquarters this week (Wednesday 27 June).

Long Service Good Conduct ceremonies are held by the Fire Service at regular intervals, and they all carry with them the same prestigious value.

Vij Randenyia OBE chief fire officer the West Midlands said: “West Midlands Fire Service exists to serve the public and make the West Midlands safer.

“We strive for excellence in all that we do in order to provide a world class service and we are only able to do this because of the hard work, professionalism and dedication of the people who work for the organisation.

“The recipients of the Long Service Good Conduct medal deserve recognition and I would like to personally express my gratitude to each and every one.”

A Royal Warrant sets out the conditions under which the Long Service Good Conduct Medal may be awarded to uniformed personnel. It states: “This Honour is only gained after rendering twenty years long and meritorious service to the Fire Brigade and the public.

“The awarding of this medal indicates the high esteem in which the recipient is held by the authorities and the public and expresses their gratitude for honourable service and devotion to duty.”

The citation for non-uniformed support staff states: “West Midlands Fire Service values the significant contribution made by the recipient in the delivery and operation of a professional service to the community. This award is made in recognition of twenty years loyal service and indicates the high esteem in which the recipient is held.”

The medals and awards were presented by Major Sylvia Parkin, MBE TD, DL.
