Wind Band News

25th March 2010

To mark its first 25 years, the Band of the West Midlands Fire Service has commissioned a suite for wind band from composer John Wesley-Barker entitled "Walks & Views In Dorset for Concert Band". Mr. Wesley-Barker, a prolific composer, is a visiting tutor at the Birmingham Conservatoire lecturing in iMedia and Music Technology and also a teacher of flute and keyboard. Examples of other compositions by the composer can be found on his website.

The Band will be featuring the work on its new CD and future concerts throughout the year.

15th April 2010

The Band has spent a lot of time over the last month rehearsing for the recording of its latest CD, Appliance of Sound. The rehearsals peaked at a residential rehearsal weekend in Coalport, Shropshire where the band only stopped playing to eat and sleep! Hopefully this effort will have paid off and the recording, which took place the following weekend, will show the band at its best. The Band hopes to have the CD on sale in the Summer.
