

Periodic Testing & Inspection of Electrical Installations at Various West Midlands Fire Service Sites
We are seeking a company to provide the 5 year periodic testing and inspection of all fixed electrical installations for 34 of the West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority sites in the West Midlands region. Please note that our Academy is located in Smethwick and our Transport Engineering Workshops in North Birmingham.
The successful bidder will be required to carry out the 5 year testing and inspection in order to satisfy the Authority as to the general condition of the electrical systems and equipment, to ensure their efficient and safe running and to indicate any repairs which may need to be carried out either immediately or in the future in accordance with the Electricity At Work Regulations 1989:Part II Regulations 5-15 and with BS 7671 I.E.E. Wiring Regulations Seventeenth Edition chapters 62-63 and The West Midlands Fire Service Specification, see link below. Although it is the Authority’s intention to award remedial/repair works to the winning bidder, works may be subject to obtaining 3 quotes. The Authority has the right to contract with any person or persons, firm or company other than the winning bidder for the provision of any specified remedial works.
The contract is expected to begin in September 2012 and will be carried out in normal working hours during weekdays Monday – Friday.
Companies wishing to tender for this contract must have £5m public liability and employer’s liability insurance cover have 2 years audited accounts and an annual turnover of £480,000. The successful contractor will be expected to have NICEIC registration or equivalent.
The company must be experienced in this field and able to demonstrate its professional & technical competence in providing this service. The company shall ensure that all staff working on the contract are suitably qualified, have had the appropriate training and certification in the inspection, repair and testing on all electrical equipment to the IEE 17th Edition Wiring Regulations and have current asbestos awareness training certificates.
Please note the top 5 to 8 highest scoring bidders will be invited to tender. Those invited will be expected to survey all 34 sites prior to submitting a tender bid.
