Handsworth Community Fire Safety Centre

Handsworth Community Fire Station is the first purpose built community fire station in Europe and was opened officially in June 2000. This was a joint initiative with Birmingham City Council SRB4 Community Safety Team.

The award winning Centre is designed to provide a service to the local community whilst delivering a planned approach to safety issues with an emphasis on fire safety and road safety incorporating the importance of using seatbelts and child safety seats. The Centre provides a focal point for community safety and welfare and education, helping to make the West Midlands safer and informed.

In the last decade the Centre has attracted over 155,000 visitors creating opportunities to make people safer through links to agencies that use the centre or joint partnerships working with the community.

Handsworth Community Fire Station offers:Red Hot Education Station

Red Hot Education Station - an interactive Fire Experience designed to allow groups to witness the dangers of a real fire in total safety and discover the consequences. They can then experience the role of a fire-fighter by wearing junior fire kit and carrying out search and rescue in a training environment as part of their team building skills.

Conference Facilities - The Centre provides comprehensive conference facilities which include a presentation theatre that holds a capacity of 60 people and houses data projector with screen and computer facilities. In addition the Centre includes a fully equipped IT training room containing 17 workstations plus 2 printers, General training room, conference room and two small interview rooms. Although the rooms are available for hire, non-funded groups from the local community actively involved in the betterment or safety of the community may at the discretion of the Centre Manager be offered a reduced rate of hire.
