West Midlands Fire Service launches consultation on its services

West Midlands Fire Service is inviting members of the public, local businesses, community groups and partners to share their views on the services it provides and the way it runs them.

The four-week public consultation, which begins on Monday 19 July, invites people in the West Midlands to tell us what they think about the services we provide, and what they want from us in the future.

Vij Randeniya, Chief Fire Officer, said: “West Midlands Fire Service has a proud history and is one of the world’s leading fire services. However, it is prudent to look at the way in which we provide our services – there are many new technologies and new ways of working that are available to us that weren’t previously.

“In these challenging economic times the government has indicated that budgets in many areas of the public sector are likely to be reduced over the next few years. Although no decisions have been made, it is an ideal opportunity for us to consider what we do, the way we do it and to ask ourselves, how we can do things better”, Vij added.

Last month, West Midlands Fire Service launched its Building upon Success programme, which aims to identify what is done well, where improvement can be made, and what the Service will look like if there is less funding available. The Service’s 2,500 employees are also being consulted to help identify ways of working more efficiently and effectively.

A series of advertisements have been placed in local newspapers to highlight the consultation.
The intention of the consultation is to give the public the opportunity to say what they think of the Service’s priorities.

West Midlands Fire Service’s council tax precept is currently one of the lowest for any fire service in the country.

The public consultation starts on Monday 19 July and runs for 4 weeks. To have your say on what our priorities should be and the services we provide, Click here.
