Safe & Healthy @ Star City

The West Midlands Fire Service hosted a Multi agency event at Star City on 17th October. The aim of the event was to promote a Safer and Healthier Birmingham.

The event will be opened at 12 noon.

To highlight our Fire Service, a number of vehicles were on display including

  • The Pump Rescue Water Tower (PRWT) from Ward End,
  • Command Support Vehicle,
  • Detection identification monitoring (DIM) vehicle and the remote controlled helicopter (ISIS)
  • Target Response Vehicle. (TRV)
  • Our Fire Investigation team will also be on display with Ellie (Fire dog).

There was also information available for Home & Business Fire Safety, Recruitment and the Fire Services Charity.

During the event there was a number of displays taking place throughout the afternoon.

  • 1300 hours – Chip Pan Unit demonstration.
  • 1400 hours – Road Traffic Collision (Inside the atrium) (We also have the Lord Mayor as a casualty).
  • 1500 hours – Technical Rescue. (They are rescuing a Bariatric casualty from the atrium)
  • 1600 hours – Chip Pan Unit demonstration.

A large number of external partner agencies also had stands at the event to promote their services. These included:-

West Midlands Police

Ashram – Community Development workers for mental health.

Birmingham City Council Road Safety Team – Promote Road Safety, Pelican Crossing, Child car seats.

Birmingham Link – To give the community an opportunity to influence decisions that are made in their community.

Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid. – Domestic violence.

Blood Transfusion Service. – To promote giving Blood in the B.M.E. community.

Gateway CIC – To promote healthy lifestyles.

Health Exchange – Blood pressure, Body Mass Index and general health issues. TBC

RDAC – To promote the specialist modified disabled vehicles.

Safer Birmingham Partnership – Promoting the work of the Safer Birmingham Partnership.

Trading Standards – Fire work safety.
